21 May 2012. A police officer, whose name was suppressed, is accused of asking for sexual favours in return for not prosecuting a drink driver. He was suspended from duty in February. He appeared at the Whanganui District Court today. He was granted bailed to appear again on July 19.

Superintendent Russell Gibson said that as soon as the allegation came to light, the officer was stood down and the incident was referred to the Independent Police Conduct Authority [IPCA].
