Abhishek Verma and Anca Neacsu
8 August 2012. Special CBI Judge Sanjeev Jain granted bail to Abhishek Verma and his Romanian born wife, Anca Maria Neacsu, in a corruption case involving their bid to influence officials to stall a government’s move to blacklist a Swiss arms firm. The judge allowed the bail because agency failed to file charge sheet in stipulated 60 days following their arrest on 8 June 2012. Soon after the judge freed them on bail, Inspector Vipin Kumar arrested them on charges of suspected forgery. Sports Minister Ajay Maken complained of the forgery. The arrest was made in the presence of the judge, who then remanded them for one day. During the proceedings, Enforcement Directorate (ED) also sought the court’s permission to arrest the couple in a money laundering case registered against them. The judge allowed the ED to interrogate them in Bihar jail and said the agency may arrest them, if required.
