David Geclowitz and Ron Weiner, employees of the Israeli private intelligence firm Black Cube, were arrested on April 3 on suspicion of intimidating the head of the national anti-corruption agency, Laura Codruta Kovesi, and hacking her emails. The Court accepted the guilt admission of David Geclowicz and convicted the him to suspended 2 years and 8 months’ imprisonment. He was accused of establishing an organized crime group, unauthorized transfer of computer data, complicity to illegal operations involving devices and software, complicity to violation of correspondence secrecy.
Investigators claim that Ron Weiner oversaw the operation that targeted Codruţa Laura Kovesi, while David Geclowicz was tasked with contacting people close to her as a form of intimidation, according to the Romanian news site Digi 24.
Black Cube, a private intelligence agency, operates out of London, Paris and Tel Aviv, under trading name and style of BC Strategy Ltd. The company draws its manpower from elite and secretive Israeli intelligence units. Black Cube provides litigation support, with intelligence, evidence and strategic advisory services.
Romanian prosecutors are trying to find out the people who hired Black Cube to carry out the attack on the chief prosecutor of the Directorate for Combating Organized Crime and Terrorism. It was rumoured that two local media moguls were behind the hiring of Black Cube.
