Shahrulzaman Jaafar, former chief assistant secretary of the Agriculture and Food Industries Ministry, was charged with soliciting RM2 million and receiving bribes since February last year. He solicited RM2 million from Wan Nor Izham Wan Nashar for awarding tenders to supply fertiliser to Endona Corporation Sdn Bhd, Qamari Consultancy Sdn Bhd, and Borneo Natura Sdn Bhd. The tender was worth more than RM118 million. He received RM85,000 from the same person for awarding tenders to the same companies. The money was paid through a bank account registered under the name SZA Niaga. These took place from between February and August last year.
He is also is also accused of receiving RM40,000 from Hazrul Hisham Hassan to award the same tender to KIIK Resources Sdn Bhd valued at more than RM37 million in August last year.
He is currently a director of Southern National Institute of Public Administration (Intan).
Sessions Court Judge set RM60,000 bail with two sureties and ordered the accused to surrender his passport until the end of the case.
The court has set Feb 24 for the next case mention.
