Khum Bahadur Khadka
15 August 2012. The Supreme Court on Tuesday convicted former minister and Nepali Congress (NC) leader Khum Bahadur Khadka on corruption charges and sentenced him to one and half years in prison. He was accused of amassing illegal wealth during the time he was holding various government posts. He was fined $105,000 and ordered confiscation of property worth the same amount. In 2006 the Supreme Court acquitted him of the corruption charges. The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) had moved the apex court in March 2007 challenging the acquittal verdict of the Special Court. The case was put off several times for various reasons. The apex court took five years to give the conviction order now. His supporters staged a protest against the conviction order. Police arrested three persons including the NC-aligned Nepal Student Union cadre Jujhang Sherpa.
