Mohammad Reza Rahimi was a top aide to former President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. Mohammad Reza. Rahimi was sentenced to five years in jail and was ordered to pay a fine of $300,000 (10 bilion rial) and a compensation amounting to $800,000. A local news agency reported that a local court had imposed a 15 year jail term, but the Supreme Court reduced the sentence to 5 years and three months.
Rahimi was accused of embezzlement of funds from the Iran Insurance Company.
Rahimi was one the head of anti-corruption agency in Iran and received a medal from Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. Mohammad Reza.
In May last year, in the largest fraud case since the Iran’s 1979 Islamic Revolution, billionaire businessman Mahafarid Amir Khosravi, was executed after being convicted of being at the heart of a $2.6 billion state bank scam.
