18 October 2012 Permanent Secretary of Finance Ismail Shafeeg confirmed that Ali Arif who was the Deputy Director in charge of the Public Enterprises Monitoring and Evaluation Board (PEMEB) was dismissed following an investigation by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). Arif told that the Ministry had failed to give him the reason for his dismissal. “I’ve only been told that I had violated the laws and regulations. I informed them via a letter that I cannot be fired until it’s proven that I’m guilty of wrongdoing. But I’m yet to receive a response,” he explained. Arif confirmed that he had filed a complaint with the Employment Tribunal and added that the first hearing on the case has been scheduled for 23 October 2012. Since 2008 Arif had been a member of the Tender Evaluation Board. He was transferred to PEMEB after he was appointed the Chairman of the Tender Evaluation Board.
