A former Corrupt Practices Investigation Assistant (CPIA) of Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB) was charged for cheating and theft on Friday, said a statement from CPIB issued on Friday.
The statement added,”CPIB does not condone any criminal or improper acts by its officers. Errant officers will be dealt with and can expect to face criminal and/or disciplinary proceedings if they are involved in any wrongdoings”.
Christopher Gan Boon Khong, 25, resigned from the service on 4 July 2014 after his dealings came to light. He stole a DBS debit card at Club V6 at Jalan Sultan. The card belonged to Vedula Vijay Kumar. Cristopher used the card to pay for two bottles of Martell VSOP worth $358 on the same day. In another club, he used the card to pay for four bottles of Martell worth $776, the same day.
He allegedly threw one Daniel Chan Kian Hong onto the ground and kicked him in the groin at Club V6.
Earlier on 29 June 2014, Gan allegedly stole a HSBC Revolution Visa credit card at Club V6 from Ms. Wendy Lim. He used this card to pay for nine shots of tequila totaling $135. The same day he used the card to pay for 11 flower garlands amounting to $1,430.
He was released on a bail of $ 15,000. He indicated that he would want to get a lawyer from the Criminal Legal Aid Scheme. His case will be heard on 27 March 2015.
He is accused of two counts of theft of credit and debit cards, 12 of cheating and one of causing hurt. He could be jailed for up to 10 years if convicted of cheating, and fined on each charge. He would face the maximum penalty of three years’ jail and a fine for theft. He could get two years’ jail and a $5,000 fine for causing hurt.
