Wong Chee Meng, 58 also known as Victor Wong, former general manager (GM) and secretary of Ang Mo Kio Town Council (AMKTC) was charged in the State Courts on Wednesday (14 March) with 55 counts of corruptly accepting gratification. Todayonline reported.

He allegedly received $107,000 in bribes from 19-ANC Enterprise Pte Ltd and 19-NS2 Enterprise Pte Ltd. Both companies are engaged in building repair and redecoration business.

The bribes include a sum of S$30,000, which was sent to Wong’s mistress in China, Xu Hongmei, in the form of overseas remittances. One of the above company employed Wong’s daughter-in-law, Ms Le Thi Hien, who received S$8,200 as salary. She later took another job because of Wong’s dealings with the company.

Wong received benefits amounting to S$45,000 in the form of entertainment in karaoke clubs, hotel accommodation and meals at restaurants. He also received a discount of S$13,500 for a Toyota Corolla Altis car which he bought.

AMKTC oversees the housing estates in Ang Mo Kio GRC. Its chairman is Mr. Ang Hin Kee, and the other six members are Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, Mr. Gan Thiam Poh, Dr. Intan Azura Mokhtar, Mr. Koh Poh Koon, Dr. Lam Pin Min and Mr. Darryl David. All are members of ruling PAP.
