Patrick Fitzgerald
23 May 2012. Patrick Fitzgerald, the U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois, which includes Chicago, announced he is stepping down at the end of June.
Mr. Fitzgerald has held his position for over ten years making him the longest serving U.S. Attorney in Illinois.
First term Senator Peter Fitzgerald nominated Patrick Fitzgerald for the position in 2001 because Patrick Fitzgerald was not from Chicago. Senator Fitzgerald wanted a corruption fighter with no ties to the local political establishment. This infuriated both the Republican and Democratic parties.
