A Shanghai court sentenced Sun Bo, former general manager of China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (CSIC), to 12 years in prison for taking bribes and abuse of power, state news agency Xinhua reported. The punishment was said to be a lenient one because he shed new light on other crimes and co-operated with the investigators. He also truly repented for his crimes and returned the bribes and gifts that he had accepted.

He also truly repented for his crimes and returned the bribes and gifts that he had accepted.
He was fined US$116,000. The judge also ordered the confiscation of $1.22 million in bribes and gifts accepted by Sun and his wife. He was expelled from the party.
He played a lead role in the development and construction of naval vessels, including nuclear and conventional submarines and aircraft carriers. He also worked on China’s deep-sea research submersible Jiaolong, which, allegedly, can reach greater depths than any other vessel like it in the world.
