14 September 2012. Police confirmed that Qionghai City Land Environment and Resource Bureau Deputy Director Dai Xiangchuan committed suicide on 13 September 2012. He was accused of accepting 400,00 yuan in bribes in connection with illegal land seizures that may have been related to another corruption investigation into the former Qionghai mayor, Wang Huiya. Dai left a suicide note which stated: “I want to finish my life, because I’m no longer well and I feel stress at work.” Dai was in charge of land-use management and the supervision of land regulations, ranking first among the top three deputy directors in the bureau.
