Himachal Pradesh. 12 March 2012. In a dramatic action, Himachal Pradesh Health Minister Rajeev Bindal of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) resigned today after opposition Congress members in the assembly levelled charges of corruption against him and created a commotion during the Question Hour.
Dr. Bindal, rebutted the charges against him point-by-point. After he concluded his reply, Bindal went up to the table of Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal, of BJP, and handed over his resignation letter to him.
Later talking to reporters in his chamber, Prof. Dhumal said his resignation was an emotional outburst.
According to a 2005 Transparency International survey, Himachal Pradesh is ranked the second-least corrupt state in the country after Kerala.
