ZURICH 12 March 2012.— Two former FIFA executive committee members have lost their appeals of two-year bans for corruption during bidding for the 2018 and 2022 World Cups.

FIFA says in a statement it is “satisfied” by the Court of Arbitration for Sport verdicts against Amadou Diakite and Ahongalu Fusimalohi. This shows FIFA’s zero tolerance for breaches of its ethics code.

Diakite and Fusimalohi were suspended based on evidence provided by British newspaper The Sunday Times. They used undercover reporters posing as lobbyists to show how FIFA officials can be bribed with $1 million.

Diakite, from Mali, was removed from FIFA’s referees committee. Fusimalohi lost his job as chief executive of Tonga’s soccer’s association.
