11 April 2012. The Wayne County public corruption case could see its first guilty plea next week when a close friend of Wayne County Executive Robert Ficano ‘s former top aide, Keith Griffin, is scheduled to appear on 19 April 2012 before U.S. District Judge Denise Page Hood in federal court.

Michael Grundy, a onetime union official who rose quickly through the Ficano administration to become assistant county executive, was in charge of HealthChoice, a program that provides health insurance to county businesses and low-income residents.

The charges against Griffin and Grundy came weeks after the Free Press revealed that Grundy orchestrated a $400,000 wire transfer to a fledgling IT company founded by Griffin that apparently did not do any work for the payment.

Grundy, 40, is free on bond.

Grundy’s indictment came three weeks after Tahir Kazmi, another former top aide to Ficano, was charged with forcing a county vendor to give him more than $80,000 in cash, as well as pay for vacations, cell phones and other items.
