Sembcorp Marine (SembMarine) on 3 July 2019 said that a search warrant was issued on its subsidiary, Estaleiro Jurong Aracruz (EJA), in Brazil, as a part of the ongoing investigations, code named “operation car wash’.
Operation Car Wash, Brazil’s biggest anti-graft probe sent former president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva to jail. Operacao Lava Jato (Operation Car Wash) has been investigating allegations of corruption at state oil company Petrobras.
Sembcorp said the investigations were relating to a former consultant Guilherme Esteves de Jesus and the former president of the shipyard Estaleiro Jurong Aracruz, Martin Cheah Kok Choon. Guilherme Esteves de Jesus,  the former consultant who was arrested by the Brazilian Federal Police, was engaged by EJA.
Keppel Offshore & Marine Ltd agreed in late 2017 to pay a $422 million fine to resolve charges it bribed Brazilian officials.
